Walk Through the Stories of Kapa'a

A self-guided cultural experience connecting you with the history, people, and places that shape Kaua'i's east side.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Kapa'a Loop Project is a place-based cultural initiative led by the Royal Coconut Coast Association to preserve, interpret, and share the history of Kapa'a Town and surrounding cultural sites through a self-guided mobile tour.

The project brings together students, community elders, and local historians to record oral histories, archival materials, and community knowledge.

These stories are shared through a location-aware mobile platform that delivers audio, images, and multimedia content as participants explore the town, combining local knowledge with emerging technology to support cultural preservation and education.

WHY THIS PROJECT EXISTS

Many of Kapa'a’s stories live in the memories of community members, in archives, and in the landscape itself. The Kapa'a Loop Project was created to preserve these stories and make them more accessible to residents and visitors.

The project also creates opportunities for local students to work with elder community members to document oral histories and learn digital tools, supporting intergenerational knowledge sharing while building technical and creative skills. More broadly, the project supports cultural preservation, responsible visitor engagement, walkability, and local economic vitality.
